The environmental education offered by the Monroe County Solid Waste Management District serves to divert waste from the landfill which makes the world a better place in which to live in many ways. REDUCING WASTE, REUSING as much as possible, and RECYCLING, minimize the impact on humans and wildlife. As part of the “three R’s,” the District’s education programs teach people to take care of water, soil, and air quality by avoiding the unnecessary use of pesticides, herbicides and household chemicals. Reducing energy usage, and disposing of trash properly, including hazardous materials such as paints, cleaners, electronics, and pharmaceuticals, serve to keep the earth healthy and all living creatures healthy. Education services help people understand how they can become more environmentally friendly, why it is important, and it inspires them to teach others simple ways to take care of the earth every day in order to make an impact in the Monroe County community and in the world.
