About the District:

The Monroe County Solid Waste Management District works to ensure that the county's waste is handled properly. It was created in 1990 in accordance with House Enrollment Act 1240, which set State waste reduction goals and authorized localities to form districts that would work to achieve these goals. The District employs 20 people who work daily to provide services to the Monroe County Community.

The District Staff is accountable to a Board of Directors which is made up of seven elected officials: -the Mayor of Bloomington -one Bloomington Council Representative -one Monroe County Council Representative -one Ellettsville Representative -three Monroe County Commissioners

The Board is supported by a Citizen's Advisory Committee that meets monthly.
